If
you are undertaking substantial works on a C of E church, you will need
to apply for a
faculty, which is basically a permission from the
diocese to proceed. If the church is in the
Salisbury Diocese, please
visit this address to obtain advice and the necessary forms: If
the church is in the Winchester Diocese, please visit: In some cases you will require Planning Permission. Your architect or surveyor will advise if this is necessary. If so, you will need to make formal application to your local planning authority. In cases where the church is Listed (see Item 6 above) you will need Listed Building Consent to proceed. In this case you should contact your local planning authority. Item 9 - Projected starting date The projected starting date is the date you are hoping to start the work.
Item 10 - Where is the money coming from? Please provide the Trust with a copy of your last adopted accounts. Existing fabric fund: If you have a dedicated fabric fund, please state how much this is. Local fund raising efforts: Please tell us how much you have raised through organised events such as fetes or coffee mornings etc. Donations for this specific purpose: Please tell us how much money you have raised ..through either private or corporate donations. Other grants applied for or already approved: This should include any money applied for or promised by any other grant giving organisation. Without this Trust and The National Churches Trust, what do you expect the shortfall to be? To arrive at this figure, you should take the cost of the work, as detailed In Item 7, and deduct all the money you have in hand for this work plus any promised funds from other grant giving organisations. To whom should the grant cheque be made out? Self-explanatory Item 11 - Loans From time to time the Trust offers churches interest free loans, which are repayable over 2 years. Please tick the appropriate box. Item 12 - Your Contribution to the Trust Please advise whether you contribute directly to the Trust and whether you contribute by the Cycle Ride (Ride + Stride) or both. Item 13 - Church opening The Trust is very keen to encourage congregations to keep their churches open during the day so that the buildings may be enjoyed by as many people as possible. It is important to note that it is very rare for insurers to require churches to be kept locked and the premium is not normally affected; indeed usually they prefer them not to be locked during the day. Thieves or vandals can do more damage breaking in than they do once inside. Portable valuables like brass candlesticks can easily be locked away when the church is unattended. Please indicate by ticking the appropriate box and if you do not open your church during the day, please say why. Item 14 - Fund raising Please tell us if you are prepared to hold a fund raising event in support of the Trust within 3 years of any grant. The Trust relies entirely on voluntary donations and receives no government support. Accordingly, in order to continue helping churches we have to raise large sums of money every year. We sincerely appreciate any contributions. Item 15 - Publicity If you receive a grant from us we hope you will help the Trust by engaging in publicity for this and any other grants. Publicity is essential for the Trust's well-being. In addition, we hope you will display a notice to the effect that a grant has been made. Please tick the boxes appropriately.
