MILTON ABBEY

The Jesse Window

Milton Abbey - The Jesse Window

The Great South Window was designed by Augustus Pugin in 1847 to fit into the elegant reticulated tracery.  Pugin is perhaps better known for his work in connection with the Houses of Parliament.  The window was made by John Hardman (examples of his work can also be seen in Sherborne Abbey) and represents the Tree of Jesse with Mary and the infant Jesus in the top centre.  Jesse is on one side and Abraham the other.
