MILTON ABBEY

The Victorian Porch

Milton Abbey - Victorian Porch

The building of this magnificent church was halted before the nave was constructed, leaving just a blind arch to the west of the great tower.  In order to provide a fitting entrance to the Abbey, Sir George Gilbert Scott, who was the architect retained by Baron Hambro to oversee the restoration, designed one to be attached to the west end in 1865.
