The President of Dorset Historic Churches Trust, HM Lord Lieutenant Angus Campbell, joined over 80 members and friends of the Trust at a reception in Cerne Abbas Village Hall on Monday 15th April to say thank you and farewell to the retiring Chairman of the Trust, Simon Pomeroy.
Mr Campbell praised Simon’s leadership over the last eight years, during which ever larger sums of money have been raised through the annual sponsored Ride+Stride event to enable grants of over £100,000 per year to help with the upkeep of church buildings of all kinds all over Dorset.
Reviewing his period in office, Mr Pomeroy described the enormous admiration he has for DHCT and its work and, with characteristic modesty, pointed out the huge team of people throughout the county who have worked so hard to support the Trust.
As a parting gift, Mr Pomeroy was presented with an 1834 copy of Benjamin Ferrey’s book on Christchurch Priory and Mrs Pomeroy with a bouquet of flowers. The Archdeacon of Dorset, The Venerable Antony MacRow-Wood, added words of appreciation for all that Simon Pomeroy has done to keep our churches open as living places of worship.
